Are you excited? Cause we definitely are.
Welcome to guddina, a project launched and nurtured by the great ambitions of one small team out of Dayton, OH.
What you will see over the next month as you beta test our new website is something that is not often found when looking at internet-based companies: an attention to detail and a passion for phenomenal customer service is at the front of our minds in everything we do, and that will never change.
Yes, we do sell coffee and coffee accessories. Yes, we will be running a very cool blog that shares the stories of real life people doing great things. And yes, we do plan on expanding and building a really awesome mobile application for smartphones and tablets to help you get your coffee fix. But we don’t do these things for the sake of doing them. We do them for the sake of what “guddina” stands for.
What does “guddina” mean?
Guddina is our philosophy on life. It’s a simple word from the Oromo language of Ethiopia (where coffee comes from) that translates into English as “to grow” or “to achieve”. We think that encompasses our goals pretty well. We want to give people a cup of coffee that helps them get their day started and achieve their goals, no matter what those might be. Then we want to give them a place online, currently our blog and in the future something so much more than that, where they can share a story about the goals that they are reaching.
When we stop growing as people, we stop living. It is important, then, to always be stretching our minds and bodies and preparing for the next stage of growth. Guddina is not just a way for us to enjoy really great coffee, it is our way of encouraging our community to continue seeking excellence.
What kinds of changes should I expect at guddina.com?
We are a startup, and that means we are moving at lightning-fast startup speeds. Within the month, you will see many different changes and additions to this website and the applications attached to it. By September, we hope to have laid the foundation for a service and community that will really explode when it goes public.
You should expect to see a lot of educational pieces written and published every week, plenty of stories of people and the real world posted on the blog, a new mobile application for finding new coffee and coffee houses to check out around the US, all of the highest quality coffee brewing accessories and kits that are on the market, and customer service that is unmatched by any other company you’ve seen.
We’ve got the sketches and drafts drawn up for the vision we have for this community. Today we are breaking ground, and tomorrow we start working towards the end.
How can I help with beta testing?
Beta testing is currently closed to the public, and we won’t be adding any more people to our app testing phase until we have a few more things ready to show. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t be involved and help us out in other ways.
For one thing, you can order our coffee and give us feedback on it. We already know that the product we have for you is awesome, but there are always areas where we can improve. Without an excellent product that is shipping and customer service to back it up, we have nothing at all.
After that, just be a part of our community here. Read our articles and leave comments. Tell us what you think about the stories we are telling, the educational pieces we are writing and the people that are getting involved. Anything you love or hate or couldn’t care less about – the more we know about what we are doing right or wrong, the better we can be in the future.
If you want to sign up to get beta access when it’s ready, then you should click on this link, here, and scroll to the bottom of the page.
What about this free coffee brewer you were talking about giving away?
It should be no secret by now – we’re giving away an Aeropress Coffee Brewer to one of our beta testers this week. Just leave a comment on this post and you’ll be entered to win. We’ll randomly draw one of you from the hat and send the brewer with a half pound of coffee attached so you can try it out.
This isn’t a lottery. Anyone can be entered to win the brewer and no one gets more chances for buying our products or paying money.
Anything else I need to know?
Of course there is! But we can only fit so much into one page. We’ll leave it at this for right now, and hope that you come back tomorrow when we start putting together all of the pieces.
I guess I could share one more thing though: It’s Leah’s birthday today. Everyone tell her Happy Birthday!
